Member bio: A reformed recluse, with two errant Labradors for company, EPS is still far from properly socialised, and neither are his dogs. He doesn’t get out much. In writing, however, he has finally found passion, purpose and community. He works mainly on Dragongate, an epic fantasy series, the first volume of which, The Gryphonhold, published in November 2026. Dragongate uses a classic setting to explore timeless themes of companionship, self-reconciliation, unlooked for violence and the cost of resistance. His writing is rooted in his love of myth, landscape, folklore and history. He has written and performed short stories at the Brandywine festival, and has an incomplete dystopian novel that he never gets to spend enough time with. He loves gothic and imaginative fiction. His favourite fantasy voices to date are Morris, Dunsany, Tolkien, Le Guin, and Guy Gavriel Kay. He also has a substack (@epsjameswrites) – Beyond The Fields We Know – where he muses variously upon the power, purpose and place of fantasy writing. He is a proud member of the Barnard Castle Writing Group, as well as BFS. He can be found on Bluesky.
